- This program assists you in the computations needed to prepare
- your W-4 Form(s) in accordance with the IRS instructions......
- It is recommended that all computations, information, etc. that
- is used to prepare your W-4 Form be retained and checked should
- it be challenged by the IRS.

- To Run the program, boot your system with DOS in Drive A:
-
- Place disk in Drive B
-
- At the A> prompt type B: and hit return
-
- at the B> prompt type W-4 and hit return
-
- THE PROGRAM:
-
- Screen #1 - The first screen you see will ask basic information
- regarding your filing status, exemptions and any
- dependents you are entitled to claime on your tax
- return. After entering the data, you are then asked
- if you wish to make any changes to your input. If
- you respond Y (yes) the program will ask you the
- line number to change. Enter the line number,change
- the information and continue.

- Screen #2 This screen requests income information.

- 1) Your estimated main employment wages
- 2) Your spouss wages (if married)
- 3) A total of all nonwage income.

- Corrections may be made on completion of the
- input and in screen #1.

- Screen #3 - Asks you to enter your estimated tax credits such
- as Child and Dependent Care and any Earned Income
- credit. Only one entry is made.

- Screen #4 - This screen asks for information regarding Adjustments
- to income as would normally appear on page 1 of the
- Form 1040 (Income Tax Return) and your estimated
- Itemized Deductions. Again corrections may be made
- on completion of the screen.

- On completion of Screen #4, the caluclations for Form W-4 are made
- and the results are displayed on the screen. The display follows
- the worksheet for Form W-4 line by line. The form W-4 requires
- rounding to report the total exemptions...the program will not
- round but will allow you to adjust upward or downward for a minor
- safety factor (remember the penalties).

- INPUT: On entering amounts, round to the nearest dollar.
- When asked for a response of Yes or No respond with
- a Y or N.

- After the display of the W-4, the program then asks if you want
- a printed copy. Be sure your printer is attached and on and
- a response of Y will provide you with a copy of the Form W-4
- worksheet.

- After the Worksheet is Displayed or Printed the system will ask
- if additional withholding is required (due to additional income
- not subject to withholding) typing "Y" will give you that worksheet
- a "N" will exit the program.
